Yuichi Imai was born in Tokyo in 1949. At the age of eighteen, he apprenticed with Akira Nakade, and studied with him for three years, before opening his own workshop in 1971. In 1975, he began to export his guitars. Today, he is considered one of the best luthiers in Japan and enjoys a great international reputation. Although the quality of his work is exceptional, his guitars are not very exported and are rare due to strong demand in Japan.
The lutherie work is perfectly done. It is a powerful guitar, the basses are deep and strong while the trebles are dense, well-balanced and well-separated, making it a very performing instrument adapted for all types of repertoire. A very nice concert instrument, its power, its reactivity, the 635 cm scale and the 51mm neck width make it easy and pleasant to play.
