Paulino Bernabe was born in Madrid in 1932. He learned to play the guitar with Daniel Fortea, a student of Francisco Tárrega. Attracted by guitar making, he began an apprenticeship with Ramirez in 1954. This was the period when Segovia began playing José Ramirez guitars, and Paulino Bernabe's guitars were signed PB. Paulino Bernabé opened his own workshop in Madrid in 1969. In 1974, he won the gold medal at the International Luthiers' Exhibition in Munich.
This spruce guitar, built in 1987, is typical of the Madrid sound of that era. The craftsmanship is of the highest standard and the woods used are superb. Sound-wise, it is a powerful instrument that combines the strength of modern guitars with the charm of old instruments. The bass notes are deep and the treble notes are colorful and melodious. The timbre is expressive and lyrical. A beautiful instrument built by a legendary name.
