Lorenzo Frignani lives and works in Modena. Since 1986 he has been making guitars, violins and lutes as well as restoring antique instruments and he has won several prestigious awards for his lutherie work. In addition to his main career in instrument building, he also works as a court expert, consultant, teacher, and lecturer in the field of lutherie. He is involved in research on the use of local tone woods and has written several books on the history lutherie.
This guitar is the culmination of many years spent researching both acoustic performances and beauty of sound. He has evolved his own unique bracing pattern. This instrument’s aesthetic is incredibly beautiful , with a « marbled » top similar to that of bowed string instruments (obtained by staining the wood, so as to bring out the grain, before applying French polish). The rosette with its mother-of-pearl inlays is simply stunning — a testimony to Frignani’s artistry. The purfling on the back, featuring an oval figure at the top, recalls the luthier’s interest in matters of harmony and balance around the « Vesica pisces » shape.
Soundwise, the harmonic richness of the timbre and the silky, woody notes endow this instrument with a strong, serious, even solemn personality. This is a superb guitar in every respect — gorgeous to look at and with a magnificent sound.
