Jean Marquet is a Belgian luthier based in Antwerp. He studied at the Centre for Musical Instrument Making in Puurs, where he was award first prize in 2019. He benefited from the advice of Walter Verreydt and Gerhard Oldiges. He made the most of their teachings, and the quality of his work quickly led to him acquiring a strong reputation.
The guitar presented here is the “Historique” model, inspired by 1948 Hermann Hauser. The aesthetics (soundhole rosette, purfling, etc.) are highly refined, and the precision of the luthier’s craftsmanship demonstrates his skill. The woods used are of the highest quality. It is a responsive, balanced, and precise instrument offering beautiful musicality and precise polyphony with phrasing that flows harmoniously. The notes are rich, flexible, and vibrant, with a wide range of colors. The timbre is rich and expressive. A superb concert guitar worth discovering for those unfamiliar with this luthier’s work.
