Gerhard Oldiges started building guitars in the late 1970s, during his university studies, and after graduation, he began a two-year luthier apprenticeship. In 1988, he attended a guitar-building course with José Romanillos — the first of many such courses with the Spanish master. His work is based on that of the first generations of great luthiers in the Spanish tradition — Torres, Arias, Manuel Ramirez — but most of all on that of their disciple, Hermann Hauser Sr. during the 1930s and 1940s.
This guitar’s aesthetics and craftsmanship are incredibly beautiful and flawless. What’s more, it captures Hauser’s spirit : it has the same stirring, warm tone, the same impressive as well as enchanting musicality. This instrument’s qualities and capabilities are fully in keeping with Gerhard Oldiges’s reputation as an exceptional luthier.
