A splendid Daniel Friederich guitar, a “concert” model from his early period (1963): Friederich was 31 at the time; he had opened his first workshop five years earlier. If we go back six years, the story begins with a young classical guitar student who didn’t have a very good guitar and had training as a cabinetmaker; his teacher suggested he build his own guitar. This teacher had himself begun building guitars with the help of a luthier friend, so he was able to offer him advice. That teacher was Christian Aubin, his friend was Robert Bouchet, and the student was Daniel Friederich, who would go on to become one of the greatest luthiers of his time. The guitar presented here shows, through both the quality of the craftsmanship and its magnificent sound, that this exceptional luthier demonstrated the ability to reach the highest level from a very early stage.
