Christian Aubin occupies an important place in the history of French guitar making. A guitarist and guitar teacher in Paris, he owned a guitar by Antonio de Torres: the FE23 of 1867. After an accident, he brought this guitar to Robert Bouchet for restoration. Christian Aubin discovered his passion for guitar making. At the same time, Aubin had Daniel Friederich among his students. He suggested him to build his own guitar and presented Robert Bouchet to him. The three of them studied and worked on his Torres, which was said to have a magnificent sound. Later Christian Aubin left the capital to settle in Concots, near Cahors in the Lot.
As it is indicated on the label this guitar is a copy of his 1867 Torres, it was built in the Lot in the 70s. The workmanship and the aesthetics are of a remarkable quality. Soundwise, Aubin succeeds in reproducing the spirit of the instruments of that time. The bass is round, the treble is smooth, silky and vibrant. The timbre is pure, deep, expressive and lyrical. It is an exceptional instrument for what it represents historically and also for its inherent qualities.
