Juan Galán Rodriguez was born in Málaga in 1876. He is the son of the guitar maker Juan Galán Caro, a pupil of Antonio Lorca. Juan Galán learned lutherie by working with his father. In 1906, he moved to Buenos Aires (his brother Rafael joined him in 1908); from 1908 he started making guitars in Argentina. He quickly becomes a great figure in the guitar world, and all the great artists of his time come to his workshop. His guitars were particularly appreciated not only for their excellent sound and workmanship, but also for their ease of playability, as they required little effort from the left hand.

This superb guitar built in 1931 shows the quality of his work and his experience acquired over the years (the same model from the same year can be found in the book the Sheldon Urlik’s collection). The bass is deep, the treble is soft, mellow, vibrant and expressive. The timbre, deep and woody, has the charm and lyricism of the best instruments of that time.
